Avoiding Poison Oak Infographic

AVOIDING POISON OAK

INFOGRAPHIC

PROJECT OVERVIEW

High Country Forestry partners with utility companies and contractors to clear trees and brush from under utility transmission lines. As poison oak is rampant in these areas, the client approached me to develop content that would enable learners to:

1) Identify poison oak in its various forms.

2) Describe immediate steps to take if exposed.

3) Describe treatment options if allergic reaction occurs.

APPROACH

I had originally approached this with video in mind, but after discussing the target audience and possible limitations (not being able to access or play videos in the field) with the client, we decided that an infographic would be more appropriate and easily accessible for this audience, both for electronic delivery and print. The client wanted learners to see actual images of poison oak in its various forms so I used images for this portion of the document and graphics for the other areas. I also added in some additional facts to support the three main topics.

WHAT PROBLEM DID THIS SOLVE?

This infographic solved two problems: 1) It provided a blueprint for the Project Manager to easily cover this topic during his tailboarding meetings with contractors (without just relying on his own notes) and 2) It provided the content in a format that was easy to distribute via email and easily refer back to later, as applicable.
